Angel Biscuits

3       cups self-rising flour
1       tablespoon sugar
1/2    teaspoon baking soda
1       cup shortening
1       cup buttermilk
1       cake yeast, dissolved in 1/4 cup warm water

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Grease a baking sheet. Into a large bowl, sift together the dry ingredients and cut in the shortening. Add the buttermilk and yeast mixture to make a soft dough. Turn out and knead for about 20 strokes. Roll t0  3/4 inch thickness. Cut the biscuits and cook on the prepared baking sheet for 15 minutes. Yield: 12 biscuits
